What Exactly Is the Chivas Life?

Chivas never defined "the Chivas life" for us. They basically handed over the money and said, "Go where you want, do want you want, and write about it for the website." While the prospect of traveling the world on someone else's dime appealed to both of us, I was particularly romanced by the idea that every dollar I've ever spent on alcohol was being given back to me, plus interest.

So what is the Chivas life? By the roughest statistical measure, here's how you spend $100,000 of someone else's money over the course of 5 months:

Hotels/Apartments stayed in: 55 (including 5 campsites in Bhutan). Our favorite bed? The Sofitel Metropole in Hanoi, Vietnam. The most expensive? Bora Bora.

Countries visited: 15 (including an unexpected overnight in Austria)

Flights taken: 37

Cost of two business class, around-the-world tickets: $19,000

Worst in-flight movie: Cheaper By the Dozen, 1 and 2

Cheapest place to buy a bottle of Chivas: Duty-free store at the airport in La Paz, Bolivia ($22)

Earliest glass of whisky: 9:30am in Keith, Scotland, at the Chivas distillery.

Latest glass of whisky: 4:00am, in Shanghai's babyface nightclub. (That was followed by the Day I'd Most Like To Forget and Longest Period Bill Went Without Being Able to Keep Food Down)

Best Under-Ten-Dollars-Per-Hour Massage: Beijing

Most over-rated destination: Vietnam's Ha Long Bay.

Place We Want to Go Next To Live: Buenos Aires, Argentina. Who wants to visit? The Malbec will be on us.

FYI - Bora Bora photos are now up and to answer all those questions, yes, this webpage will continue to be updated. With or without their money, we're going to keep living the Chivas life as long as possible...
