Guatemala City

Ten years ago, when I thought my World Bank contract wasn't going to get renewed, I planned out a three-month hike through Central America, starting in Antigua, Guatemala. For better or worse, I was offered another job and the trip never happened until last week, when Bloomberg sent me north to cover a meeting of finance ministers and central bankers in Guatemala City.

I can't say I saw much of the country, but I did finally get to use my ten-year old Lonely Planet guidebook and the view from my hotel room (above) wasn't bad at all. And the food -- Mexican-style tacos and steaks with poblano chile sauce -- was totally unlike anything we get in Argentina.

Next week Dana and I get to travel together -- we're taking five days to travel around Mendoza, the heart of Argentina's wine country near the border with Chile. Check back for the photos and an updated design on this web site.
